Do you mentally say Elaine-eee? Elle-len-knee?? Ellen-eee? Elony?? Elle-lawn-ee?? I’m just curious bc almost no one gets my name right on the first try and I can’t figure out why.
so in my global violence against women and girls class (such a light subject, I know), we are discussing honor killings this week and like I was reflecting on my great grandmother Xrissoula’s story and like I’m pretty sure given everything that I know about her story, honor killings, and how Greek culture conceptualizes family honor that her first husband was killed bc of an honor killing and she fled to America to avoid being killed bc she would be next (since honor killings involving men nearly almost always end in the women dying too, like 99%) and when she was gonna get deported from America (like I’m talking on the boat about to take off from shore), she was like “If I go back I will throw myself into the ocean and die before I step foot on Crete bc I will be killed” but yeah…like I’m trying to access the record from her first marriage bc I want to see if my family was part of any clan/mafia violence since that apparently happened a lot when she was there, but yeahhhhhh
